How does it work?

As we age, the collagen that keeps our skin firm breaks down resulting in aging skin that contains fine lines and wrinkles. A Thermage FLX™ treatment uses Total Tip 4 (900shots) radiofrequency technology to heat the deeper, collagen-rich layers of the skin. The applied heat causes existing collagen matrix to contract and encourages new collagen to start growing. This helps create smoother skin after just one treatment, with results that continue to improve over the next 4-6 months.

According to most patients, Thermage FLX delivers a better, faster and more comfortable treatment experience. The device still employs Comfort Pulse Technology (CPT™), which uses vibrating pulses in the handpiece to enhance patient comfort, and the enlarged treatment tips allow for faster, more uniform heating to enhance treatment goals.

How long does each treatment take?

Patients will need to be prepped about 20 minutes before the procedure. During the procedure, a handheld device is pressed against your skin to safely deliver heat to the inner layers, at the same time cooling the surface of the skin. Each time the treatment device touches your skin during the treatment, you’ll feel a vibration and a brief cooling sensation, followed by a deep but brief heating sensation, followed by another bout of cooling. The heat is a sign that the deep layers of your skin are reaching effective temperatures for tightening. Throughout the procedure, your physician will ask for feedback on the level of heat sensation to help balance your comfort with maximum results. Thermage treatments average about 45 minutes for the face and up to an hour and a half for other parts of the body, depending on the size, location and condition of the area to be treated.

Is there any pain or downtime?

The treatment incorporates vibration which has been shown to provide patient comfort. You’ll feel a brief heating sensation when the treatment device’s tip touches your skin, followed by a cooling sensation to help protect your skin and minimize any discomfort.

Are there any side effects?

Some patients experience slight redness or minor swelling after the treatment which will typically goes away within 24 hours. You can return to your regular activities immediately.

What results should I expect?

For most patients, measurable results can appear gradually in the two to six months following a single treatment session and can last for about 1-2 years depending on your skin condition and ageing process.

How many treatments will I need?

Thermage FLX is designed as a single session treatment. However, some patients may choose to have a second treatment to obtain additional tightening. The skin will continue to improve over a six-month time period.

The new AccuREP energy delivery algorithm automatically tunes the energy delivered prior to every pulse rather than only before the first pulse as was the case with the prior generations of the device. This change means improved efficiency and comfort.
