Ultrasound skin tightening treatments, like Sofwave™, are non-surgical, non-invasive procedures for the face and body that use ultrasound energy to lift and tighten loose skin.
What is Sofwave?
Sofwave uses the company’s proprietary SUPERB™ (Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam) ultrasound technology to boost collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid to regenerate and rejuvenate the mid-dermal layer of the skin with no needles and no downtime.
Sofwave is FDA cleared to lift the eyebrow and lax submental tissue (beneath the chin) and neck tissue. It can also be used to treat loose, crepey skin on the underarms, tummy and back of hands.
Precise Depth
Sofwave treatments penetrate the skin’s surface to heat the skin layer between 0.5 and 2 mm, centred in the mid dermis, at the precise depth and temperature needed to jumpstart your skin’s natural healing response to reproduce collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.

Who Is Suited For This Treatment?
A good candidate for Sofwave is someone with some degree of laxity, to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm. Loose skin under the neck and under the chin, or lines and wrinkles on the chest, are signals a patient might be a candidate. Typically, those in their 30s and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are candidates. While Sofwave is not a replacement for a surgical facelift, there are many people who want some skin tightening and facial lifting but are not ready for surgery, whether mentally, physically or financially. There also are younger people who want to “stay ahead of the game,” as well as patients wanting an aesthetic maintenance option.

What is the treatment like?
The Sofwave device uses ultrasound energy to penetrate the skin’s layers and stimulate collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production. During the treatment, you might feel a warm sensation as the energy is delivered.
The treatment’s integrated cooling mechanism, SofCool™, ensures your skin remains protected throughout the process. In addition, to ensure patient comfort, a numbing cream may be applied before the treatment begins.
How Long Does Each Treatment Take?
The session typically takes 30–45 minutes, depending on the treatment plan.
Is There Any Pain Or Downtime?
Comfort levels vary from patient to patient and can depend on the area treated as well. Your practitioner will discuss options for making the experience as pleasant as possible. The sensation you experience is associated with the focused ultrasound energy as it is deposited below the surface of the skin. It is noticeable just while the energy is being delivered and patients typically leave comfortable and excited about the benefits to come.
Are There Any Side Effects?
You can return to your normal activities immediately after your procedure without any post-treatment restrictions or requirements. Your skin might appear flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. Some patients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature.
What Results Should I Expect?
Some patients see an initial effect right after their treatment, but the real results appear over 2−3 months* as new collagen works to lift and tighten skin on the neck, chin and brow as well as smoother, tighter skin on the chest or arms if treated. While Sofwave won’t duplicate the results of a surgery, it’s a clinically proven non-invasive alternative for those not ready to go under the knife —and can even be an option for patients who wish to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.
Since the procedure stimulates a person’s own collagen production, how long the results last depends on the individual. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but the individual’s natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside. Future touch-up treatments can help provide more control over the aging process, which varies by individual.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The majority of patients only need one treatment; however, some may benefit from more than one treatment, depending on how much skin laxity they have and their body’s own biological response to the ultrasound and the collagen-building process.
